Choosing the Correct Seat at the Poker Table

If people have told you that it doesn’t matter where you sit at the poker table, then you may have been misled. No matter what variation of the game of poker you play where you are seated is important even when playing video poker. This is especially true when playing online poker tournaments. This is where many people playing online poker go wrong. They ignore where they sit. So, why are seats important?

When people play poker, they are all thinking strategy. It keeps people going as they count how many cards are showing and so on. If you think about it, no matter how well you are at playing poker, you can be doomed if you aren’t sitting in the right position. Your whole game could be off all due to one person you are sitting next to who doesn’t know how to play just as well. So, here are some tips to remember.

If you have the crazy unpredictable poker player on the table, many will tell you to sit to the left of this person. People who are normally like this will raise all sorts of bets and therefore, you can act after they do. If you have a good hand you will want this person to raise so then you can raise it for a third time. If you play often enough with just one person, you will learn when and how he raises and also learn to read him when he’s bluffing which might work in your favor as well. You can raise with these people and increase your winnings.

Other people who have played in many tournaments will tell you differently. They will tell you that the person who loves to raise is who you want to sit on the right of. When you seat yourself so you are the last to either bet or fold, then you will be able to watch people.

Yet, other people have a rule of thumb of seating based on gaming personality. They say those who are what you would call tight and who like to bluff belong on your left. Others who belong on the left side of you are those who have many chips. Those who like to what they call ‘walk’ will be on your right side. In all, those who play loose should always be on the left side of you. You will find that you will come to your own conclusions about where you sit as you play more and more and feel comfortable with what you are doing. Always be sure to read some of the online poker tips to get an idea as to where on the table is best for you and your style of play.
